PDS CARES 30 Years, 30 Gifts charitable gifting program has selected Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana as our lucky week 13 charitable gift recipient! Matthew Stewart, a friend of PDS Planning, Inc. serves on the Advisory Board. Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana is headquartered locally, in Columbus. Matt nominated Make-A-Wish as it is clearly near and dear to his heart.
A brief history of the Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana chapter: Make-A-Wish of Northeast Ohio was founded in 1983, becoming the eleventh chapter formed within the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. In January 1984, the chapter granted its first wish. Six-year-old George, battling cancer, wished to go to Walt Disney World Resort. In its first year of operation, Make-A-Wish of Northeast Ohio granted 12 wishes. That number would continue to rise as the chapter began to grow over the years. In August 2005, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America identified the Greater Ohio and Kentucky chapter as most capable of handling a merge with the neighboring Indiana chapter. The union resulted in forming Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, which now has the highest regional population with the greatest number of eligible wish kids. The chapter, headquartered in Columbus, has six regional offices in Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Indianapolis. Working together, Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana has granted over 12,000 wishes in its over 30-year history.
At some point in our lives, we have all heard of Make-A-Wish and seen some stories about a special child’s one last dream coming true. The mission statement of this organization is “To grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.”
