When PDS CARES received this nomination for consideration in our 30 Years, 30 Gifts program, we already knew the passion behind its history. It came to us from PDS clients, Lauri Roman, Lynn Goss, and Sharon Orazen. Over the many years PDS has worked with them, we have come to lovingly refer to Lauri, Lynnie, and Shermie as “The Goss Girls.”

The letter we received from The Goss Girls about the David C. and Andria W. Goss Family Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research says everything about why this fund is our 22nd week donation recipient. Their nomination letter follows.

“We lost both of our parents to cancer at very young ages, as today’s standards go. It has been the hardest thing we’ve ever been through. Our Mother was only 63 and our Father was a “very young” 74. Mom’s was an unknown primary adenocarcinoma and Dad succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer just 11 weeks after his diagnosis. They both fought valiantly and with so much courage! They are truly missed by so many.

In dealing with our grief, we decided we wanted to do something to help. Our family started the David C. and Andria W. Goss Family Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University. The fund supports medical research for this dreaded cancer.

We have had the privilege to meet with Dr. Tony Saab and Dr. Chen to understand the incredible work they are doing with patients and in the lab at The James. We hope that someday this fund won’t even be needed, and this horrific cancer might be eradicated! We don’t want any more beautiful souls to be taken by Pancreatic cancer or any other cancer.

Thank you to everyone at PDS for this wonderful donation and remembering our dear parents! We are forever grateful.”

Sincerely,

Lauri, Lynnie, and Shermie “The Goss Girls”
